Menaje de Casa: Problem with visa over 6 months old

menaje de casa using if visa 6 months old

The only legitimate and prudent way to move or import any significant amount of your household goods to Mexico is via the menaje de casa.

And in the vast majority of circumstances, in order to use the menaje de casa, your mover will tell you that you need to get your menaje de casa inventory certified by the Mexican consulate closest to where they are moving your items from, typically in the US or Canada. The consulate will probably tell you the same thing.

This can be a devastating piece of news for anybody with a visa more than six months old who wants to import their prized household goods to their new home in Mexico, because almost all Mexican consulates will refuse to certify the menaje de casa inventory of an importer with a visa more than six months old.

No certification at the consulate = no moving on the menaje de casa = you can’t import your household goods, right?

Not always...

In some (but not all) circumstances, you may still be able to import your precious household goods on the menaje de casa even though your visa is more than six months old, and even though your local consulate refuses to certify your menaje de casa inventory.
